Edward Morgan creates one-of-a-kind ceramic works. Starting with large, wheel thrown classical forms, he then ornaments the vessel. Through this process, each piece develops a unique personality. His highly acclaimed, whimsical “frog series” continues to delight patrons, and his more recent “botanical collection” reflects the widespread, current interest in the environment. These pots and 3-dimensional wall sculptures, ornamented with imaginary leaves or flower petals, are both peaceful and exciting. His newest work is a study of form and space. As always, his process starts with the ornamentation of classical forms and focuses on the abstract design of geometric shapes. The roundness of the vessel is juxtaposed with rectangles to create both tension and a delicate balance.
A native of Florida, Edward studied architecture and became a cartographer. In 1985, he moved to California. Inspired by the creativity he saw around him, he soon began his career in ceramics. Within a short time, he was winning awards and exhibiting his work. The famous ceramicist, Vivica Heino, saw his work and awarded him a scholarship to further his study. He has continued to develop his talent and extend his work. This year he won an award of second place in the Ventura County Fair.
Edward has donated his time to teaching ceramics to local youth at area high schools and the Ojai Art Center. In addition, he has donated many pieces to various charities and civic organizations for them to auction at fundraising events..
As a member of the prestigious Ojai Studio Artists, Edward‘s work can be seen every fall on the Studio Artists Tour. Each year people look forward to seeing his newest creations. Beyond this annual event, Edward has exhibited in the Tesoro Gallery, Beatrice Woods Center for the Arts, Studio 84 West, the Ojai Art Center, Down Home Gallery and at galleries in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Detroit, Fort Myers, Boston, Milwaukee, New England, and internationally, in New Zealand. His work is being collected through out the United States and overseas.
